Free, runs entirely in your browser — no sign-up, no file upload to a server.
What does the Background Remover do?
It removes the background from a photo using a real AI image-segmentation model that runs entirely inside your browser, leaving you a transparent-background cutout.
Does it upload my photo to an AI service?
No. The AI model itself (a one-time download, cached after first use) is fetched from a CDN, but your photo is never uploaded anywhere — segmentation runs locally via WebAssembly.
Why does the first use take longer?
The chosen model (Balanced, Fast, or Smallest — a size/quality trade-off) has to download once before it can run; after that it's cached in your browser for faster repeat use.
Which output formats are available?
PNG or WebP, both of which support the transparency the cutout needs.
What should I do if removal quality is poor?
Try the "Balanced" model for better quality (at the cost of a larger one-time download), and use a photo with a clear subject-background contrast for best results.
